Technology and Teacher Professional Development

1.) I learned that new technologies and staying up to date on the latest tools is vital for the success of the students both now and in the future. There are so many tools on the internet that can help teacher be succesful and professional development. Implementing the technologies in the classroom will not only help students education but also help them be prepared for life. 2.) Viewing the bookmarks of other people is easy and effective. I find it interesting to see how different people interpret different technologies and their ideas of how they can be used in the classroom. It is a great way to communicate different resources with other teacher and get their take on why a site is and important resource for educators.

Adaptive technologies are technologies and applications that are meant to help student with specific learning needs and extrinites learn to the best of their ability. They support learners as they are meant to help students grow and succeed in the best way possible through various technologies that are meant to cater to each students unique needs. I think some challenges that these adaptive technolgies pose for students, especially in the younger grades, is that students may feel that they arent all getting the same treatment or oppurtunties. While it is great for learning, students may be sensitive to the fact that everyones challanges and needs are different, which can be a hard concept to grasp at a young age. Blooms taxonomy is a hierarchy that encourages students and teachers to implement a higher level of learning in the classroom. Blooms taxonomy serves as almost a guideline for teachers so they can focus on helping their students use a higher...

A paragraph discussing your experience with Twitter so far. What have you learned from using Twitter?  What are the benefits of using Twitter?  Are you experiencing any issues? A paragraph on new skills you acquired from working on the Web Page Design assignment and reflect what you like about it/what you don’t like about it. How you can improve it next time and how what you learned from the assignment can be used in your future career?  Post a screenshot and link to your website . A paragraph on the new skills you learned from working with Diigo.  How can this application be useful in your classroom, with team members, and in your individual professional efforts. Since the creation of our twitter pages, I have enjoyed being able to see other class members thoughts and feelings as we move through the semester. I found that we have a lot of similar ideas about things like the technology sandbox and the projects we have done in class. I think the twitters are g...

http://garrityd.wixsite.com/garrityclass On the main page of the website there are flashing pictures of the students and other things that are in relation to the classroom. For parents, there is all of the teacher information and contact information on the home page as well. The main page also features a section that displays "important information". This is very helpful in keeping the parents in the loop in a easy to read, accessible way. Since it is a first grade classroom the site is directed more for parents and guardians to use rather than students.  Being someone who struggled staying organized as a young girl, I really hope to make things clear for both the parents and students. I want parents to have easy access to important information and be updated on the things going on in the classroom. I will create an updated calendar and be sure to post about important events, homework, and other things going on in the classroom. For myself, I will d...

Group Activity C.R.A.P

Lindsey Callhaan Contrast: -The contrast on this webpage is good. The background is a green color while all the text is on a white background. If this were printed out in black and white it would still be easy to read. Repetition: -similar visual effects are repeated throughout this webpage. Titles are in blue, below the text is in purple. Everything is organized so its easy to read and navigate. Alignment: -Everything is aligned, the main links are all centered. The rest of the page is broken into to columns which from there are aligned titles and texts. In addition to all of this the pictures are aligned as well. Proximity: -Similar visual elements are grouped together, she has links to different things in her webpage. Like the about me section, each section has its own visual element that is different than the home page. From these links, things within these tabs are all grouped together  in a very clean cut and organized way so things are easy to find. http://garri...

I have found that the web 2.0 technologies are very helpful both in and out of the classroom.  A tool that I have come to love, and that we recently discussed in our EME class, was Dijjo. I had never been introduced to dijo before but over the past few weeks I have been able to understand why web 2.0 tools like Dijo would have been very helpful tool  Dijo is basically a more descriptive online bookmark, that gives titles and tags for specific web pages. I think this is one of the most useful tools for students because it gives them the ability to organize their thoughts of a web page, mark it, and save it to sight later. For younger ages, I think tools like kidblogger are a great resource which allows students to document their thoughts and communicate with other children of their same age. They are free to have a voice but in a safe, montired, online environment which is a tool they will definitely need in the future.  I...

Resource Critique Activity

As a teacher it can be difficult to know the exact standard and tools needed for lessons plans. CPALMS, the website, serves as a great source for teachers. I chose third grade level, and carefully went through the majority of the page and standards. Here's what I concluded: -I thought that the guidelines were thorough and straight forward. The website did a really great job of keeping things simple and organized. -I felt that the time restriction was a little harsh. Especially for the grade level. Third graders often get distracted during assignments, but will become frustrated when they aren't given enough time to complete the work. That being said I think they really need to consider increasing the amount of time given for certain tasks and keep in mind the maturity level of a third grade student. -I think that standardize testing can be a challenge for many third grade student and might not accurately display their knowledge. That being said I would want to spend less ...

I have thought that the twitter has been a really fun, accessible  and easy way of connecting with people in EME2040. I have been able to read about so many different students thoughts and experiences uses the hashtag. I also like being able to see previous students of EME2040 tweets about the class in the main feed for the hashtag. Overall I think that is it a beneficial because it creates ann easy way of communicating with other students in the class. The digital divide definitely does affect students success in different schools. I think there is an expectation that all kids have access to technology, but unfortunately that isnt the case. Students who dont have access to technology at home tend to have a harder time learning in school and using the computer and programs. There are many causes of the digital divide but I think it depends a lot on socioeconomics because certain students are unable to use devices and techn...
