Blog Journal 2
At a young age my teachers introduced my fellow classmates and I to the wonderful world of technology, more specifically Microsoft. Back then, it was much less intense, but my point is that from the start teachers have always found ways to incorporate applications such as MS Word, in the classroom. Over the years, I have become more and more familiar with the different uses for MS Word. I have spent countless hours typing papers (MLA format of course), creating brochures, articles, and even flyers using Microsoft word. While I have never had much experience creating tests, I have seen teachers use word to create tests, notes, and other things within the classroom. Word has many different templates and formats that are available to make creating different types of documents. Overall, I think that understanding how to navigate MS word is important for both students and teachers.
Making sure to properly cite and give credit where credit is due is important in any environment, beyond the classroom. As a teacher, there are many situations in which you need to use text books, powerpoint lessons, and others materials in the classroom. As a teacher it is vital to understand how to use others work properly, without taking it illegally from the source. Teachers should have respect for others property, just as their students should. That being said, when using materials in the classroom from various other sources, it is important to double check if the source is copyrighted and to not share it as your own. Copying can be a hard concept for students to grasp especially if they don't understand the consequence of plagiarizing someone else's work, thats why as a teacher I would try to make this concept clear and straight forward to the students. Students should be able to understand the importance of creating their own work and citing sources that have been found else where.
The issues presented in chapter 11 are all realistic concerns to have when introducing technology in a classroom. Since we are working with young adults and kids it is important to consider the maturity level and the ability to use technology in the appropriate and correct way. I think that as a teacher, one of the first things you should do when using technology the classroom is try to help the students to understand how to correctly use things from the internet and the ramifications that come along with the incorrect use. I would do an activity to learn how to properly cite sources and ensure that students are able to take advantage of all the internet has to offer, but in the correct way. Social issues like cyberbullying are common problems that come with the use of technology. Students should be made aware of all the things that are considered bullying and how it will not be tolerated. As a teacher it is our job to keep the students safe as best and that means when using technology too. Technology is a great way for people to get across their thoughts with out saying them out loud but that tends to lead to people making inappropriate comments. We should keep a careful eye on the things students are saying and doing when they are using their technology. There should be set boundaries and rules for students about what can and cant be said over the internet. All technology should be monitored carefully and sensitized to make sure all the content is appropriate for the classroom.
