There are many reasons why it is important for students and teachers to use technology in the classroom. Technology is not only helpful and efficiant, but also serves as a way to get students to be more actively involved within the classroom. Through technology, students are able to participate and use the tools they are given to learn, but in a more creative and interesting way. This is not only helpful to the students, but is also very helpful to the teachers who are trying to teach the students in the most efficient manor.
The skill set that was important to me, based off of the ISTE standard was creative communicator. Communication has always been my strong suit. While I lack more in the areas involving technology and critical thinking, I tend to do very well when it comes to communication Whether it be face-to-face, in front of a crowd, or through social media I think that having the ability to communicate, thoughts words, and information is one of the most powerful things that educators can do and thats why creative communication is most meaningful to me.
A digital native is the term used to represent the youth that refers to children who have grown up during the age of technology. I do agree with the label in many ways, that I do think modern day children are much more dependent on technology than ever before. The moment a child is born they are introduced to all sorts of technology and gadgets which causes them to know nothing different. On the other hand, a digital immigrant is someone who was raised before the "digital age" and tend to be much less dependent and up to date witht the latest technology and devices. There are differences between the two types of people, especially in the classroom, students often have to help teachers use different technology. I have been in many classrooms with "digital immigrants" who have been more up to date than students and uses things like apps and different computer skills/technology in the classroom.
